COMMUNITY
INVOLVEMENT
As shoppers at De La Colmena bring their baskets
to the check-out stand, they relish in the fact
that they're helping out local businesses and giving
back to their community. Many shoppers still
don't realize that the money they spend at De La
Colmena goes beyond the pockets of owner Manuel
González, instead it's given out to the people who
need it most.
|
|
Mr. González is heavily involved in charity help and
with the Latin Community. He donates food to groups
like the Indian Council, the Mayan Program and many
area schools including University of California, Santa
Cruz, moreover every year he gives assistance to the
Carnivals organized by the Assumption Church in Watsonville
by either donating food or giving them discounts.

Youth
recreation is very important. That's why De La Colmena
supports and sponsors a soccer team made up by very
enthusiastic young people who have excelled and remained
among the first places in every tournament for the
last 4 years.
|
As
a member from the "Hispanic
Chamber of Commerce" in Watsonville,
Don Manuel González uses his business to assist
others, even competitors. His philosophy
is simple: Helping other businesses gets more
people shopping, which generates revenue for
all local businesses.
